Choose the right ADHD Coach

Finding the right ADHD Coach is crucial. A certified ADHD Coach not only supports individuals in developing strategies and improving executive functioning but also has extensive knowledge of ADHD and its challenges. They apply their expertise in a collaborative and exploratory process to identify clients’ unique paths for growth.

However, not all coaches are equally qualified. To ensure ethical and truly supportive coaching, it’s important to verify the coach’s certifications, experience, and coaching approach before making a decision.

Why certification matters

Not all coaching certifications are the same. While many coaches may call themselves ADHD coaches, only those certified by recognised organisations have completed rigorous training, practical coaching hours, and assessments of their skills.

Look for certifications from:

PAAC – Professional Association of ADHD Coaches
The only organisation exclusively dedicated to certifying ADHD coaches.
Ensures high professional standards in coaching skills and a deep understanding of ADHD.

Certifications:

  • CACP – Certified ADHD Coach Practitioner
  • PCAC – Professional Certified ADHD Coach
  • MCAC – Master Certified ADHD Coach

ICF – International Coaching Federation
The largest global coaching organisation.
Focuses on strong coaching skills but does not specialise in ADHD coaching or ADHD.

Certifications:

  • ACC – Associate Certified Coach
  • PCC – Professional Certified Coach
  • MCC – Master Certified Coach

LEVEL 1: THE ADULT ADHD COACHING APPROACH, 2 OPTIONS: 7-11 APRIL AND 21-25 APRIL

LENGTH: 130 H

STATUS: 5 ECTS CREDITS AT EUROPEAN QUALIFICATION FRAMEWORK EQF, LEVEL 5.

      • 30 contact hours
      • reading books from literature list
      • study theory, customised material from class
      • study of additional scientific research and articles
      • interactions and coaching practice with peers
      • written assignment for diploma and ECST- credits

Applicants for level 1. ”The adult ADHD Coaching Approach”: Adults highly knowledgable on ADHD whom within their profession are in contact with persons with ADHD on a daily bases and wishes to learn how to apply ADHD Coaching skills in their communication. Contact hours stands for hours in class in person at STC Higher Education, Malta.

Two recordings of peer coaching sessions will need to be submitted for review. 5 ECTS credits and a diploma is awarded those who reach the requirement of completion and an approved examination within a time limit. 90 % attendance obligatory.

REQUERMENTS FOR GRADUATION: READING FROM LITERATURE LIST AND RECOMMENDED RESOURCES, SUBMISSION OF RECORDED SESSIONS, PEER COACHING, SESSION REVIEWS, WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS, MENTORING, 90% ATTENDANCE.

GROUP LEADER: THE ADHD GROUP COACHING COURSE, NOVEMBER 2025

LENGTH: 250 H

STATUS: 10 ECTS CREDITS AT EUROPEAN QUALIFICATION FRAMEWORK EQF, LEVEL 5.

      • leading 8 group sessions under supervision

Applicants need to have completed the level 1 course to be accepted for level 2 , or be an experienced ADHD Coach already. Students learn about group dynamics and group processes. How to apply ADHD Coaching skills in a group setting.Contact hours stands for hours in class in person at STC Higher Education, Malta.

Graduation: 8 group coaching sessions are organised and led by students under supervision by trainer. Each session has a theme and a step by step-manual.

10 ECTS-credits are awarded after approved examination and successful period of session leading, where knowledge of theory and best-practice have been displayed.

ADHD CoachingFor ECTS credits the courses are held in Malta at STC Higher Education.Exact dates for courses to be advised.

Obligatory attendance: 90 % .The rest of the education hours includes self studies, practising with peers, writing assignments and/or hours of supervision on line or by phone.

LICENSED:
A license is issued to someone who then becomes licensed.
Licensing is allowing someone to use something, e.g. a player’s license, a material, a patent or the like. Someone is a licensee and someone else is a licensor.
A question to ask in this context is who is the licensor and what rights are included in the license.

DIPLOMA:
A diploma is a type of proof of e.g. completed training, or a special achievement. A diploma can be issued by any institutions or organisations for any purpose or achievement.
A question to ask in this context is: who issues the diploma / writes the diploma, and on what grounds.

ACCREDITED:
To provide someone with power of attorney. e.g. an education that lives up to official expectations regarding quality, content and learning.In education, it is, for example, a matter of an institution of higher education accrediting an program which, after examination, can give awards in higher education credits.
An officially recognised and specialised organisation can also be the credentialing body for the accreditation.

A question to ask in this context is who is the credentialing body for the education/training program and on what grounds are they accredited.

CERTIFIED:
The person who is certified is officially recognised for meeting set requirements of knowledge and academic excellence after passing the examination of an accredited education. To certify is to provide someone with a certificate as proof of eligibility and specialised competence.
Two questions to ask in this context are:
Which is the credentialing body?
What are the requirements to become certified?

LICENSERAD:
Någon har en licens. Stavning licenserad går också att använda. En licens utfärdas till någon som då blir licensierad. Licensiera är att tillåta någon att använda något.t.ex en spelarlicens, ett material, ett patent eller liknande. Någon är licenstagare och någon annan är licensgivare. En fråga att ställa i sammanhanget är vem som är licensgivare och vilka rättigheter det är som är licenserade.

DIPLOMERAD:
Diplom är ett intyg om t.ex genomförd utbildning, eller en särskild prestation. Att diplomera någon är att ge ett diplom till någon. En fråga att ställa i sammanhanget är: vem det är som diplomerar, utfärdar diplomet – skriver diplomet och på vilka grunder.

ACKREDITERAD:
Att förse någon med fullmakt. t.ex en utbildning som lever upp till officiella förväntningar ang. kvalitet, innehåll och lärande.Inom utbildning handlar det t.ex om att ett lärosäte ackrediterar en utbildning som efter examination kan ge högskolepoäng. Eller att en officiellt erkänd branschorganisation ackrediterar en utbildning på samma grunder. En fråga att ställa i sammanhanget är vem som ackrediterat en utbildning och på vilka grunder.

CERTIFIERAD:
Den som är certifierad är officiellt erkänd för att uppfylla ställda krav på kunskap och akademisk excellens efter godkänd examination av en ackrediterad utbildning. Att certifiera är att förse någon med ett certifikat som bevis på behörighet och särskild kompetens.Två frågor att ställa i sammanhanget är: Vilken är den certifierande branschorganisationen eller lärosätet? Vilka krav ställs för att bli certifierad?
